Highway to close while unstable rock removed

9:01 am on 12 October 2013

The Transport Agency says there will be brief closures of a South Island state highway while 500 cubic metres of unstable rock is removed from a bluff.

State Highway 73 between Springfield and Arthur's Pass will be closed for up to five minutes at a time while work is done next week to remove rock from Paddy's Bluff above the highway.

It will also be closed for an hour until midday on Wednesday while rock is blasted.

The Transport Agency says the work should be finished by next weekend, weather permitting.
