Raetihi could soon have limited water supply

1:30 pm on 15 October 2013

Ruapehu mayor Don Cameron says residents in the small town of Raetihi could have a limited water supply restored by the end of the week.

The town's supply was contaminated by thousands of litres of diesel leaking from a tank at the Turoa skifield in the Tongariro National Park on the weekend of 28-29 September..

Mr Cameron says council workers have flushed the pipes through the township and the council is hoping to have supply restored so people can use toilets and showers and do their laundry.

However, he says it will still be some time before the water is drinkable.
