The Mayor of Palmerston North wants a car rally that will copy a route police alleged Mark Lundy took the night his wife and daughter were killed to be scrapped.
The 'Lundy-Three-Hundy' race invites teams to drive the 300km return trip between the Lundy family home in Palmerston North and the Petone foreshore.
Mayor Jono Naylor says the event is someone's idea of fun, but it will be extremely upsetting for the friends and family who loved Christine and Amber Lundy.
The rally is scheduled for 30 November and will leave from 30 Karamea Crescent in Palmerston North where the bodies were found.
Mr Lundy is awaiting a retrial after the Privy Council quashed his 2002 convictions for the murders.
