Unions make submissions over Air NZ plan

Immigration New Zealand says it has received submissions from two unions on Air New Zealand's bid to employ workers from overseas.

The airline wants its employer accreditation renewed so it can fill positions, including design engineers and software automation test engineers.

The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union said last week that maintenance jobs are being lost throughout the country and some of those people could fill the jobs on offer.

However, the airline said the jobs would be difficult to fill from within New Zealand.

Immigration New Zealand said the Flight Attendants and Related Services Association and the EPMU have made submissions, which the airline can now respond to.
