Burrito chain jobs at risk in family spat

About 100 jobs and the future of a fast food chain in Auckland and Australia are in jeopardy because of a family dispute.

The Original California Burrito Company is a 12-store chain with outlets in Auckland, Hamilton and Australia.

Eight of the stores closed two weeks ago when a court injunction was taken out against franchise owner Jeff Moss by his ex-wife and her brother, property developer Andrew Krukziener.

Mr Moss says creditors are owed more than $500,000 as a result and people have lost their jobs.

He says there have been offers to buy the businesses but the injunction is preventing the sales from going ahead.

Two stores in Manukau and Ellerslie, which are franchisees, are still operating, but Mr Moss says their future is also uncertain.
