Newly-elected mayor Sheryl Mai has appointed a popular third-term councillor, Sharon Morgan, as her deputy-mayor.

Ms Mai says Mrs Morgan is a hard-working councillor who has twice been elected unopposed, and has already proved a huge help to her.

The new Whangarei District Council will be sworn in next Wednesday.
