5:46 pm on 25 October 2013

The Northland polytech has suspended a tutor arrested on charges of sexual offences against a child.

James Sanders, 65, is charged with one count of sexual violation and six of indecent assault against a 12-year-old girl during an out of school care programme.

NorthTec said on Friday that Mr Sanders was employed as a tutor on its Sustainable Rural Development Programme and worked on the Out of School Care and Recreation programme during the holidays.

It suspended Mr Sanders about two weeks ago after learning of the charges against him.

The Northland man is in custody and will appear in court again on 30 October.
