Whanganui still cleaning up after flooding

Whanganui is still cleaning up following last week's flooding.

The Wanganui District Council says contractors are continuing to get rid of silt on the riverbank and the jetty at Upokongaro.

Kowhai Park, which was submerged when the Whanganui River reached near-record levels, is now open, despite large amounts of silt remaining in grassy areas.

Motorists are being advised to take care on slippery rural back roads, which are still at risk of slips.

The council says Whangaehu Valley Road is not suitable for campervans and the end of Kaiwhaiki Road remains closed.
