The latest survey on what New Zealanders think of their public services has shown a small improvement from a year ago.

The State Services Commission publishes quarterly reports on public services satisfaction and this year's June quarter shows since June 2012 the overall score has gone up one point to 73.

Overall satisfaction has steadily increased over the last six years from 68 in 2007.

Nineteen services were given higher ratings over the same period including access to welfare benefits and accomodation help.

But 12 services were given lower ratings, including a lower satisfaction with employment or retraining opportunities.
