A man has admitted to part of an attempt to import a large cache of drugs found hidden at Auckland Airport in November 2012.

Dinesh Manoharan, 37, appeared in the Wellington District Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to one charge of importing methamphetamine.

Police then withdrew a second charge of conspiring to import the drug.

Manoharan was remanded in custody to be sentenced at a later date. He is already serving an 11-year prison sentence for the armed robbery of an elderly couple at their Hutt Valley home in 2011.

Another man is awaiting trial on charges relating to the drug find at Auckland Airport.
