Police in Auckland have arrested a 27-year-old man in relation to an assault on another man who remains in a critical condition.
The victim, Tarun Asthana, 25, was punched once and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement outside a McDonalds restaurant, near the intersection of Queen and Customs street early on Saturday morning.
He is on life support in Auckland Hospital.
The man arrested will appear in the district court on Monday morning on an assault charge.
Police say more serious charges are possible, depending on Mr Asthana's condition in the days ahead.
Police are still seeking information from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the assault.
