Mines rescue training centre opened on West Coast

A new mines rescue training centre is being opened on the West Coast on Sunday, at Rapahoe, north of Greymouth.

The centre has been funded by Development West Coast, which donated $1 million to the Pike River Distribution Fund in the wake of the 2010 tragedy when 29 miners were killed.

The building includes three seminar rooms, office space, and an underground tunnel that allows for simulated training.
