One of the key figures in the story surrounding the two-year affair by Auckland mayor Len Brown has rejected allegations made by the mayor's former lover.
Luigi Wewege, who worked on the campaign of mayoral hopeful John Palino, on Monday emailed a media statements rejecting claims by Bevan Chuang.
Mr Wewege denies having been in a relationship with Ms Chuang in the run-up to last month's election, and said he was unaware of the full extent of her affair with Mr Brown.
He said he did not send private photos of Ms Chuang to journalist Stephen Cook, who wrote the story revealing the re-elected mayor's two-year extra marital affair.
Mr Wewege said he is transitioning to the next phase of his career, and asks for privacy as he rebuilds his life.
Ms Chuang says she had been in a relationship with Mr Wewege who urged her to go public about her affair with the mayor.
On Sunday, she renewed her accusation that Mr Palino wanted her to persuade the Auckland mayor to resign after re-election.
Speaking to TVNZ's Sunday programme, Ms Chuang repeated earlier claims that Mr Palino wanted to use information about the affair to damage Len Brown.
"He wants me to speak about it so they could talk to the mayor and say they are aware that he is having an affair, there's evidence, if he does not want this information out he should step down and maybe perhaps say that he's got a health problem and he cannot do this job any more."
Mr Palino has repeatedly denied such accusations and has denied knowing about Ms Chuang's affair with Mr Brown before it was made public.
