Police have recovered the body of a man reported missing after a tramp in Kaikoura's Seaward Range.
Sergeant Julian Lewis said it appears the man had fallen 300 metres while negotiating rocky terrain along the Surveyor Spur.
The 53-year old was reported missing after failing to return from a three-day solo tramp.
The death has been referred to the coroner and a post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
The man's name has not yet been released.
