Soldier faces hearing for actions in Afghanistan

12:08 pm on 10 November 2013

A New Zealand soldier is accused of being reckless and negligent while on duty in Afghanistan.

The soldier, who has not been named, faces two charges, one under the Crimes Act and the other under the Armed Forces Discipline Act.

The Defence Force says the soldier is charged with being a secondary party to an offence, by putting an explosive in place with reckless disregard for the safety of others.

It says the soldier also faces another charge of negligence.

The incident occurred during a deployment between April and October last year.

Defence says a date for a hearing has not been set yet and it is making no further comment at this stage.
