Police say post-mortem was completed on Tuesday and confirmed that the 37-year-old had multiple injuries consistent with a violent and brutal attack.

Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel described the attack as a heartless act which took the mother-of-two's life.

Ms Fan was last seen on Friday 8 November dropping her children off at their local school and speaking with a teacher.

Mr van den Heuvel said he he can't comment on whether she may have known her killer, or what weapon was used.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw Ms Fan or her vehicle, a red Honda hatchback with registration GSL128, from Friday on to come forward.

Ms Fan is Chinese, of slim build, and was likely to have been wearing a hooded crimson top with white stripes on the shoulders and plain black track pants.

Her body was found on Sunday afternoon by a male friend who went to visit her at the Brussels Street house after not hearing from her for several days.
