Police say it is likely the men behind a violent home invasion in Auckland will try to exchange the foreign currency they stole.

Jewellery was also taken when a couple was assaulted, tied up and robbed in Pukekohe on 8 November.

Police say the men searched their home for an hour while the couple aged in their 60s and 70s was trapped.

The pair needed hospital treatment after the attack, which police say was a horrific home invasion.

Officers are now appealing to people who deal in second-hand goods to look out for the items.

They also say a reasonable amount of money from India was taken and are asking anyone who has been approached about exchanging rupees to contact them.

The jewellery includes a gold necklace with a gold heart-shaped pendant, two gold bangles, a pair of gold earrings and a gold ring with diamonds.
