Up for tender are 650 bottles of French and New Zealand wines, after the recent sale of L'Escargot restaurant, which run by Andre Teissonniere until his death earlier this year.

Mr Teissonniere was the first to introduce French cuisine to Taranaki in the 1970s and ran the restaurant for 37 years.

Family trustee Bruce Richards says Mr Teissonniere hand-picked his collection of wines during travels in France and New Zealand.

Mr Richards says he was offered $10,000 sight unseen for the collection, so selling for tender is a good idea.

The collection, which is to be sold whole, is open for viewing at the former restaurant premises on Saturday.
