The Police Association says a member's bill to protect children exposed to the manufacture of methamphetamine does not go far enough.
A Sentencing Amendment Bill proposed by New Zealand First MP Asenati Lole-Taylor would impose tougher sentences on criminals operating a P-Lab when children are present.
But Police Association president Greg O'Connor says the bill would hold only the makers of the drug more accountable and not the chidren's caregivers.
Mr O'Connor says P-Labs are often in occupied houses and children can be exposed to the chemicals and dangers such as an explosion.
