Main talking points in review of Burial and Cremation Act

Law Commissioner Wayne Mapp says more choice and funeral costs are some of the main talking points at meetings being held around the country as part of a review of the Burial and Cremation Act 1965.

The commission hosted a public meeting in Tauranga on Tuesday.

Part of the review includes decision-making after death and managing different cultural expectations.

Mr Mapp said people are listening with interest about the Takamore burial dispute as well as raising other issues.

He said the meeting numbers have been respectable with representatives from iwi, councils, the funeral industry, and people with recent personal experience, in attendance.
