Bunning's store near Grey Lynn approved

Planning approval has been given for a building supply store in central Auckland, which had been opposed by nearby residents in Grey Lynn.

The Bunning's store will be built on a 7000-square-metre site on Great North Road, adjacent to a residential zone.

Residents mainly from the Arch Hill neighbourhood argued that the scale of the store and the traffic it will generate would harm their quality of life and make the area less safe.

The planning commissioners found the development fits the current Mixed Use zoning for the site, and that design features and restricted hours for deliveries will reduce the impact on residents.

The decision is based on the current Auckland City district plan - not the draft Unitary Plan, which is the new development blueprint for Auckland and isseveral years from being finalised.
