Treasury advice being reviewed by international economist

8:37 am on 22 November 2013

The Treasury will undergo an independent review of the quality of its fiscal policy advice over the last decade.

Chief economist Girol Karacaoglu says the external review will be carried out by Teresa Ter-Minassain, a former director of the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund.

Dr Karacaoglu says the review is part of Treasury's commitment to ensure the quality of its advice is up to scratch and shows it's not afraid about being put under the spotlight by a world renowned specialist.

Green Party co-leader and finance spokesman Russel Norman says it would be healthy for all government departments to undergo such reviews.

The review will be published next year.
