Selwyn continues to grow

New Zealand's fastest growing district, Selwyn, has had twice as many building consent applications as last year.

Selwyn, west of Christchurch, has grown by almost 7000 people since the 2006 census, largely prompted by residents moving after damaging earthquakes in the city in 2010 and 2011.

In the four months to October this year, more than double the number of consents for new houses and commercial buildings were issued as in the same quarter of 2012. The district council says that equates to 925 building consents.
