Sex workers may operate to own accord

Sex workers in Christchurch are considering developing a voluntary accord that they would regulate.

Shirley/Papanui councillors Ali Jones and Pauline Cotter called for the meeting between police, the city council, sex workers, community board members and the Prostitutes Collective.

The councillors agreed to take back a list of actions for further discussion with the council, including developing an accord and investigating the provision of public toilets and rubbish bins in areas where sex workers operate.

Ms Jones says tensions between homeowners and sex workers have been rising since sex workers moved to the residential part of Manchester Street when the inner-city was cordoned off after damaging earthquakes.
