Northland 'not properly consulted' on charter schools

7:11 am on 23 November 2013

The Post-Primary Teachers Association wants no more charter school applications processed until Northland communities have been properly consulted about the opening of two charter schools in their region next year.

Association president Angela Roberts says she has spoken to people in Northland, including the community of Whangaruru, who say they're unhappy at being overlooked by Education Minister Hekia Parata.

She says people are annoyed at the lack of information about the impact of charter schools on the public school system in the region.

Ms Roberts says the Act party, which has been pushing for charter schools, has never sent its leader, John Banks, to Northland to listen to local concerns.
