Boxer Daniel MacKinnon has been discharged from Waikato hospital's neurosurgery ward.

He was admitted just over a week ago following a light heavyweight title fight with Robert Berridge in Hamilton.

He lost by a technical knockout in the tenth round when the referee decided he could not continue.

He ended the fight on his feet and was able to conduct a post-fight interview in the ring.

But about quarter of an hour later he complained of head pain and was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for a brain bleed.

The emergency surgery relieved the pressure on his brain.
