An aircraft at Auckland Airport had to land shortly after take-off when smoke came from the cockpit.
A Fire Service spokesperson said the Mt Cook Airlines flight bound for Palmerston North landed just after 8.30am on Saturday and 56 passengers were evacuated.
The spokesperson said engineers were unable to find any signs of fire, and believe it was most likely steam coming from an air-conditioning unit.
