Inquiry into access to buildings for people with disabilities

11:07 am on 2 December 2013

The Government is taking a look at how good access to new buildings is for disabled people.

Disability Issues Minister Tariana Turia says people with disabilities are saying buildings being constructed are still not accessible to them and that limits their opportunities for education and employment.

A review will be held of building laws and regulations relating to access in new or altered buildings.

It will be carried out by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Office for Disability Issues, with recommendations due by the middle of next year.
