Quake Outcasts still uncertain about future

3:09 pm on 4 December 2013

The fate of owners of uninsured and undeveloped land in red zones in Christchurch is still uncertain despite a Court of Appeal ruling in favour of them.

While it says the red zone was lawfully created, the Court of Appeal has upheld a High Court ruling that the Government's offer to purchase uninsured or empty properties for half the 2007 rateable value was illegal.

But some red-zoned Brooklands residents who call themselves the Quake Outcasts are unsure about what the next offer from the Crown will be.

Lawyer for the group Grant Cameron says nobody knows when, if at all, the Crown will renew its offers.

He says the Outcasts will go to the Supreme Court to get what they feel they deserve.
