Police have released a description of the man suspected of trying to abduct a Timaru girl on Tuesday night.
They say the 13-year-old was grabbed as she was cycling along State Highway 8 near Sir Basil Arthur Park at 8pm.
She was dragged across a fence and into a bush, but the man ran off after a member of the public went to her rescue.
Police say they have completed a scene examination at the park in the suburb of Washdyke and have examined a Mazda hatchback found there.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill says the man sought is Caucasian with a dark complexion and clean-shaven. He has dark hair and is of solid build.
The man is believed to be in his 20s and was wearing a cap, a white hoodie with a grey triangular pattern and maroon jeans.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
