A bus company says driver error caused one of its buses to crash into a building in central Auckland on Thursday morning.

A Ritchies bus came off the road and became stuck under the awning of one of downtown Auckland's tallest buildings - the former ASB building on the corner of Albert St and Wellesley St - after colliding with another Ritchies bus.

The company's director, Andrew Ritchie, says both drivers and four passengers - one on one bus and three on the other - were uninjured in the crash.

Mr Ritchie says the buses have been checked at a depot and no problems were found.
