A man has died following a fire in his makeshift shelter in Marton in the Rangitikei district.
Police say the fire happened between 11pm on Wednesday and 8.30am on Thursday on a rural property off a main road.
The 36-year-old man was the only person in the shelter at the time. Police believe the blaze may have been started by a candle.
