A magnitude 4.7 earthquake has been recorded 5km south-west of Seddon in Marlborough.
GeoNet said the quake occurred at 1.45 pm on Friday and was at a depth of 21km.
Civil Defence spokesperson Rosie Bartlett described it as a short, sharp jolt. but says there are no reports of any damage and it is business as usual.
The quake was also felt by some people in Wellington.
