Complaints to OECD over quake homes

8:26 pm on 9 December 2013

The OECD is being called on to look into breaches of human rights by companies involved in repairing and assessing earthquake-damaged homes in Christchurch.

Advocacy group WeCan says it will be lodging complaints of human rights breaches to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on behalf of families living in sub-standard housing.

WeCan spokesperson Mike Coleman said on Monday that 19 complaints have been lodged and the group intends to make 100 by the end of this year.

The complaints allege that the companies' actions have violated the right to adequate health, housing, and access to food and clean water, he said.
