Waipoua forest fire under control

4:02 pm on 11 December 2013

Firefighters in Northland worked through the night to bring a forest fire under control.

The Fire Service says the fire started just before 11pm and spread to about three hectares of pine area in the Waipoua forest.

Northern Fire Communications manager Scott Osmond said a helicopter was brought in as soon as there was light on Wednesday morning, which helped to control the fire.

Rural firefighters remain at the scene on Wednesday.
