Emergency services have had to brave live power lines and a swarm of bees at the scene of a fatal crash in Waikato.
A ute flipped on State Highway 29 near Matamata just before 2am on Wednesday, killing the driver.
Police say a power pole fell on top of the vehicle, and not only were there live lines, but the ute was carrying a load of beehives.
Power company staff have made the lines safe. An off-duty police officer who is also a bee keeper is helping with the hives, but several emergency services personnel have been stung.
State Highway 29 is expected to be closed for some time on Wednesday, but diversions are in place.
