Trial date set for Banks

6:57 pm on 11 December 2013

ACT Party leader John Banks will face trial in May next year for making a false electoral return relating to his failed bid for the Auckland mayoralty in 2010.

The date was set by Justice Brewer at a hearing at the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday. The hearing is set for 10 days.

Mr Banks is accused of listing donations from casino operator SkyCity and internet businessman Kim Dotcom as anonymous, while in fact knowing who had made them.

The case will be recalled to court in February, but Mr Banks has been excused from attending.
