Train derailed at Spring Creek in Marlborough

12:17 pm on 11 December 2013

A train derailed at Spring Creek near Blenheim, blocking a level crossing for about an hour.

The northbound freight service came off the tracks as it entered the freight terminal at Spring Creek, at 9.30am on Wednesday, when one of the wheels (bogies) on the locomotive derailed.

Kiwirail said it was a minor derailment but the length of the train meant its tail blocked the Ferry Road level crossing, resulting in the crossing being closed for just over an hour while another locomotive was brought to move the wagons out of the way.

This was completed at about 11am.
