Jury in electoral fraud case continues deliberations

2:41 pm on 11 December 2013

The jury in the High Court trial of seven men accused of electoral fraud has returned with a question about the men's actions.

Daljit Singh, a real-estate agent, JP and senior member of the Supreme Sikh Council unsuccessfully stood for a seat on the Otara-Papatoetoe local board in the 2010 super city campaign.

Mr Singh and six others are accused of sending the personal details of 116 voters to authorities and registering them to the area where he was standing.

The Crown says some of the voters lived as far away as Tauranga or Timaru.

Just before midday on Wednesday the jury asked whether a number of forms downloaded by one of the accused in July 2010 were the only forms downloaded.

The judge confirmed they were.

The jury has been deliberating since Friday.
