The Transport Agency has postponed the closure of State Highway Six through the Haast Pass.
The road was to close on Thursday to allow repair work, after a slip in September brought down 50,000 tonnes of boulders and debris.
The agency said forecast heavy rain has postponed the work until Monday and Tuesday.
