The Waikato District Council is being prosecuted after an overflow of partially treated wastewater went into Raglan Harbour in June this year.

The council has been charged by the Waikato Regional Council with discharging a contaminant into the environment under the Resource Management Act 1991.

Chief executive Gavin Ions says the council has fully co-operated with investigators from the regional council.

Mr Ions says his council is very disappointed by the incident and wants to ensure that its wastewater systems are as robust as possible for the future.
