The Department of Conservation says a supposed open fishing day at a marine reserve in Hawke's Bay on Wednesday is an unfounded rumour.
DoC has had several inquiries in the past few days about a supposed fishing day at Te Angiangi Marine Reserve.
It says it is illegal to take anything from a marine reserve at any time and anyone caught trying to fish or take shellfish within a reserve boundary will be prosecuted.
The department will send extra personnel to the Te Angiangi reserve to ensure everyone is obeying the rules.
