Appeal application dismissed

A former director of National Finance has had his latest attempt to get his conviction overturned dismissed.

At the High Court in Auckland earlier this year, Anthony Banbrook was sentenced to home detention for eight-and-a-half months for making untrue statements in a company prospectus. The 66-year-old was also ordered to pay $75,000 in reparation.

National Finance went into receivership in 2006, owing more than $24 million to 2000 investors.

The court was told that the prospectus underestimated debts and Banbrook, a barrister, failed to make basic inquiries about related-party lending.

Banbrook asked the Supreme Court for leave to appeal against the Court of Appeal's dismissal of his bid to challenge his conviction.

The Supreme Court dismissed that request.
