Tenants are moving out of two office buildings in Wellington because of concerns about earthquake resilience.

The five-storey Dominion Post office in Boulcott Street has been downgraded from meeting 70% of the building standard to between 20% - 30%.

Fairfax Media says it is looking for a new building and staff will stay on site until one is found.

AAP reports the move ends 75 years of newspapers being based at the site.

Tenants at 139 Willis street are also moving after an assessment downgraded it from 70% compliant to 40%.

The Medical Council says its employees are working from home until a new premises can be found and Contact Energy is allowing staff with concerns about safety to work at another office.
