Concern about overdue tramper

Police in Christchurch are concerned for the wellbeing of a British tourist, who is overdue while walking the Te Araroa Trail between Nelson Lakes and Boyle River.

Andy Wyatt, who is believed to be aged about 24, was last seen at Blue Lake in Nelson Lakes National Park on about 13 December.

Senior Constable Phil Simmonds says he was intending to tramp to Boyle settlement in the Lewis Pass, where he was due to collect a food package on 16 December.

Another tramper spoke with him at the Blue Lake hut, but he has not arrived at Boyle settlement.

Senior Constable Simmonds says Mr Wyatt may have left the area without contacting the Boyle Education Centre, where the food parcel was delivered.

Huts and tracks on the trail are being checked on Thursday.
