Wet Christmas Day forecast

12:57 pm on 22 December 2013

The national forecaster says rain is on the cards for most areas on Christmas Day.

MetService says a trough is moving north over the country this week, and the central region and west coasts of both main islands should experience showers throughout the day.

Forecaster Ian Gall said the skies should be sunnier over Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, but for the most part it will be a drizzly Christmas.

"It's a fairly unsettled day actually, but basically we have a trough moving across the country during the day. Almost everybody is going to see some showers or some rain."
