The Queen has reflected on prominent events from the past year during her Christmas broadcast - from the service that marked the 60th anniversary of her coronation to the birth of Prince George.
She also contemplated the role of the Commonwealth and looked ahead to the Commonwealth Games being staged in Glasgow next year.
The broadcast was recorded earlier this month in Buckingham Palace and aired on Radio New Zealand National on Christmas evening.
In it she said everyone needs to get the balance right between action and reflection.
She said with so many distractions, it is easy to forget to pause and take stock.
