The police in Havelock North say a car that crashed into a hair salon in a mall on Saturday demolished most of the shop's interior.
The incident happened at about 12:30pm on Te Mata Road while the driver of the vehicle was leaving a carpark.
The police say the driver accelerated swiftly over a footpath and into a pedestrian mall.
The car destroyed a council rubbish bin, decorative bicycle and some pedestrian hand rails, before smashing through the rear doors of the salon, which was closed.
The woman driving the car was taken to Hawkes Bay Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
