New Zealand entertainer Lou Clauson from the popular 1960s musical comedy duo Lou and Simon has died. He was 85.

Music historian Chris Bourke said Mr Clauson and Simon Mehana were much loved by New Zealanders for their humour and musical talent. Mr Mehana died some years ago.

Mr Bourke said one of their biggest records was A Maori Car - a parody of the West Side Story hit America. They only performed with a guitar and could do up to four gigs a night in Auckland.

Mr Bourke said Mr Clauson died in a retirement home in Auckland, where he enjoyed performing for other residents and was very proud of his place in New Zealand entertainment.
