The Children's Commissioner says New Zealand is starting to make progress in meeting the needs of children, but still lacks a plan for tackling child poverty.
Russell Wills says the Government should be given credit for its investment in areas affecting vulnerable children, such as the supply of housing, insulation and child immunisations.
But New Zealand still does not have a strategy for addressing child poverty, and needs to follow Britain's lead.
Mr Wills says Britain has legislation that requires the government to have a plan with targets set and ministers and ministries held accountable.
He says New Zealand needs the same kind of plan.
